Starting the year off right!

So now you know a bit more about us!

2010 was a great year for us and we are EXTREMELY excited to see what 2011 has in store! We'll do our best to keep you up to date on what transpires!

Challenge

We want to thank everyone who came out and supported us at our Food Network Challenge viewing party (and the ones who couldn't make it, but sent all the kindness via Facebook & Twitter)!! Oh my gosh! We were blown away by all of you! An extra big thanks to Leigh & Mary Alice @ StudioWed for hosting our party for us, as well as Clean Plate Club & Nashville Audio Visual for providing their services and making the place look fab!

We were proud of our performance and can't wait to go back! (details on that coming soon!)

We can release a few pics now that the show has aired! They're not the best by any means, but a look inside regardless...

The bug was huge! The entire piece weighed in somewhere around 150 pounds+!! You couldn't really see them on the show, but all of the trees had faces and glowing eyes - they were one our favorite parts of the piece.

Crumteenies & CrumbGear

We've had so many people ask us how to get our cake without getting a cake... Well, that dilemma is finally solved. No, not cupcakes. Crumbteenies! It's the cupcake - evolved! A cupcake simply cannot hold the secret goodness that our cakes do, so we created something different, but a lot more elegant! Tons of (infused) flavor possibilities & custom wraps make this the new breed of individual desserts! AVAILABLE NOW!

By the way... Why buy chocolates again for Valentine's Day? These make other Valentine's goodies look very generic! Place your order soon, supplies limited! Delivery available too!

And... through today only! (1/28) You can get 58% off of an order of 'Crumbteenies' at Style Blueprint! You don't want to let this one slip by!!

I've always been a huge fan of vintage aprons, but have never been able to find exactly what I was looking for, so...

We created our own line!! Through a collaboration with the AMAZING Sara Marie (Designs by Sara Marie), we came up with some spectacular designs... you can even order a custom one if you'd like! Go check them out!

We're looking forward to a great year with ALL of you!

The Up's & Down's

The down's. Well, we arrived in Nashville a year ago, ready to jump right into this thriving wedding industry, but "red tape" had other plans. Through a bit of bad information, we discovered that private home kitchens aren't looked at as fondly here as in other areas. (Not what we were told before we made the move here) So, we were stuck. Stuck with a product we knew people loved, but with no way to get it to them.

In the process, we had a generous friend that rented kitchen space to us so that we could start rolling out cakes until we worked out all the logistics of our own space. In our early stages, we were fortunate enough to make cakes for Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum, Mallory Hope, and Paramore guitarist Josh Farro! We couldn't believe the cakes that were coming so early in the game! "Blown away" doesn't even describe it. (none of that was a "down", I guess!)

The flood held us up quite a bit, but we pressed on. We were continually looking for that perfect spot to set up shop. It took us longer to get "up & running" than we thought - but we finally made it!

The up's. On August 1st, we finally opened the doors of our spanky new private bakery located in the heart of downtown Nashville. After much deliberation, we decided it was best that we not open a retail space just yet. Instead, we wanted to devote as much time as necessary to help our family of five with the transition through this year. It was an amazing find, and perfect for our first location in this area.

On August 19th, we opened our doors for our friends and family to check out the new space and to savor some brand new infusion flavors! What a turnout we had! We were amazed by all of the support!

another reason we do what we do

More up's. We had the privilege of being featured in the Tennessean, The City Paper, and the Nashville Post as well as having a story done on us by Channel 2 news (WKRN). Crazy, right? But as much as we were overwhelmed and appreciative of all of these, none could top the next news we received.

In September, we were contacted by The Food Network to be on an upcoming episode of The Food Network Challenge!! The most exciting part of this for us was that this is not a show that you can audition for, they must find you! We were shocked when we received the news. It was an amazing experience and we pray it leads to big things in the future. We filmed in October and our episode airs January 9th (Sunday) at 7pm (central)!! Don't forget to set your DVR!

We have had the pleasure of making our cakes for some amazing couples this year and that is the very reason we keep pressing on. We don't take lightly the fact that they chose us to create the centerpiece for the event of their lifetime.

So that's the journey so far (shortened version), and we'd love to fill you in here and there of what's going on! Sure, there were those that weren't too happy about us "invading" the wedding cake industry here, but overall, we were welcomed with open arms and warm hearts. A leap of faith is rarely easy, but here we are. We're just a family, trying to pursue what we love and provide for our family, so thank you. Thank you for sharing our excitement and giving us the chance to be fellow Nashvillians.

First year, part one.

So, here we go. A little journey of a family and cake.

Long story short, we married (young) fresh out of college, jumped into youth ministry immediately, and quickly started a family!

(just fyi, not our kids and what we wouldn't have done for a real cake and photographer! yikes.)

Growing up in the restaurant business, I have always had a passion for food, but none as much as a good sweet treat. I began decorating cakes simply as a hobby for friends and family, and next thing you know, a cake company developed in 2004 on the beautiful coast of North (& South) Carolina.

We have had the pleasure of creating hundreds of cakes for some very amazing couples at some breathtaking venues, such as Bald Head Island, St. James Plantation & Grande Dunes just to name a few...

So... why Nashville? My husband and I also share a passion for music - and where better to end up for that than where nearly EVERY other musician ends up? But beyond that, when we visited just to get a feel for the city, we simply fell in love with it!

After 14 years in ministry, 3 kids, and a thriving cake business, we decided to pack up and head to Music City. No promises of jobs, nothing lined up. Just our family and a lot of faith! A very tough decision, to say the least. But, we told ourselves that we didn't want to look back in 10 years and say "I wonder what would've happened in Nashville?".

We decided to keep the shop in the Carolina's up and running under the watchful eye (and talent) of our beloved manager Niki! She. Is. Amazing. She's had a great year with some gorgeous cakes, and we miss her dearly. I do travel back and forth from time to time to help with the really hectic weeks, but she rarely needs me anymore!

We arrived in Nashville just barely a year ago, and we've not stopped since.

Stay tuned for the ups (and downs) of cake life in Nashville, year one.

What are some serious leaps of faith that you've taken?

First year. First blog.

Wow! Our 1st "Nash-iversary" came quick! And what a year it has been!

We've been trying and trying to start our blog for months, but now that we think about it, what better way to celebrate our first year in Nashville than with a recap of all that's happened? And what better time than on the anniversary itself?

First - we wouldn't be where we are without all of the AMAZING people that have crossed our path from day 1 until today. From our very first wedding show, we have made some lifelong friends that we are extremely grateful for - you have made us feel welcome and we greatly cherish the industry that we have jumped into. Thank you!

We want to take this month and give a bit of insight into our year. So, for the next few weeks, we are going to be blogging about our reason for being here, our trials, our successes, our celebrity cakes, our Food Network experience and our plans for the next step. Maybe even answer a few questions that are filling your mind!

So, stay tuned - sign up, even... and enjoy the journey of the first official year of our Nashville location!

In the meantime, what are some questions that we might could answer for you?
